Remember if you haven’t filed your self assessment tax return online in the past, you must register with HMRC by the 21st January (today)
You can do this by visiting the HMRC website and following the links under the self assessment tab.
The final deadline for filing tax returns is midnight on 31st January.
Once you have regsitered with HMRC you will be sent an activation code in the post. This will usually arrive within 7 working days.
If you fail to file your tax return by the 31st January you could face a £100 fine.
If you have historical taxable income not previouly notified to HMRC and this gives rise to a tax loss, the consequences could be far more serious. In such circumstances you should contact a tax investistigation specialist without delay.
Positive and proactive action now could save you the expense of a protracted tax investigation, punitive penaties and in the most serious cases a criminal prosecution.
